State to quit Albtelecom?

16 Feb 2009

According to Reuters, the Albanian government is looking to sell the state’s remaining 16% stake in fixed line telco Albtelecom. Turkey’s Calik Enerji Telekomunikasyon and Turk Telekom bought 76% of Albtelecom for EUR120 million (USD154 million) in 2007 after re-negotiating a contract it had signed with the previous Socialist government in 2005. ‘The government [has] decided to sell its stake of 16%,’ Suzana Guxholli, an adviser to Prime Minister Sali Berisha, told Reuters. ‘A tender might be held in two months after we have first selected a sale consultant.’
