Cellcos to launch user trial for new multimedia communication services in 2H 2009

12 Feb 2009

France’s three incumbent mobile operators Orange France, SFR and Bouygues Telecom have announced plans to conduct a user trial on innovative communication services based on the so-called ‘Rich Communication Suite’ (RCS) standard. In a press release, the three firms said they acknowledged the growing interest in new forms of multimedia mobile communications, including the sharing of images and videos during a call and enriching the address book with live contextual information such as tagline. The trio of operators are contributing members of RCS, a programme which is managed by the GSM Association. The user trial is due to take place in France during the second half of 2009, based on RCS specifications Release 1, adopted by GSMA in December 2008.
