Lattelecom signs fibre-optic network deal with ECI

Lattelecom has inked a deal with ECI Telecom for the provision of the vendor’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solution. The deployment of the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network will enable the telco to offer high speed internet access and HD IPTV. Commercial services will begin in Riga, where connections up to 100Mbps will be available, before the service expands nationwide thereafter. Speeds of up to 500Mbps are planned by the end of 2009. No financial details of the deal have been disclosed.
