Kenyan convergence

10 Feb 2009

Kenya’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, Safaricom, is attempting to increase user revenues by bundling a range of services under a single umbrella. The converged packages bring together wireless and wireline telephony, plus broadband internet and video services. With competition in its core telephony markets increasing Safaricom is looking to encourage existing subscribers to spend more on their services. ‘The converged services is part of our ongoing strategy to increase our revenues on top of our traditional voice market and also offer platforms to our clients that can help them to reduce costs and increase efficiency,’ Business Daily Africa reports Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph as saying. The new offering is currently being targeted at business customers.
