Chunghwa orders optical network gear

10 Feb 2009

Taiwan’s dominant wireline and wireless operator Chunghwa Telecom has awarded Alcatel-Lucent a contract to deploy an advanced optical multi-service network using an intelligent control plane. The project, the first of its kind in Taiwan, is part of Chunghwa’s five-year next generation network (NGN) initiative. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will enable Chunghwa to enhance the performance, reliability, flexibility and scalability of its core transport network, further optimising resource utilisation and improving network efficiency. The rollout, which is scheduled for completion by mid-2009, will help Chunghwa achieve savings in operational expenditures while maximising network protection, operation and maintenance.
