Network split now looks unlikely

9 Feb 2009

Franco Bernabe, chief executive of Telecom Italia, says the spin-off of its networks business into a separate company is no longer being considered. Rival telcos have called for the former monopoly to split its retail, wholesale and networks operations to allow alternative providers equal access to its nationwide infrastructure. Bernabe has told Reuters, however: ‘The issue of a separation of networks is no longer on the agenda. It has been surpassed by what has happened in the last year.’
