No dividend for VimpelCom shareholders?

6 Feb 2009

The board of cellco VimpelCom has unanimously recommended that shareholders vote not to pay a dividend on common shares for 2008 as the company is now, ‘focused on generating and preserving cash,’ after heavy borrowing to finance its acquisition of Golden Telecom last year. The majority of VimpleCom’s voting shares are held by the Alfa Group (44%) and Norway’s Telenor (30%).
