Charter launches 60Mbps internet service

Beleaguered cable operator Charter Communications has announced the launch a of 60Mbps residential internet service using DOCSIS 3.0 technology. The service, named ‘Charter High-Speed Internet Ultra60’, is being launched in the St. Louis metropolitan area, with additional markets to follow. In addition to select Ultra60 deployments, the company is increasing its16Mbps service to 20Mbps nationwide at no additional cost to customers.

At the beginning of the week Reuters reported the fourth largest US cable TV operator by market share was preparing a bankruptcy filing after failing to make a USD73.7 million interest payment due recently.
