NBN bidders may consider partnership for project

4 Feb 2009

According to MIS Financial Review, three of the bidders for Australia’s National Broadband Network (NBN) are considering forming an alliance for the project; SingTel Optus, which bid through its newly created, wholly-owned subsidiary; Optus Networks Investment (ONI), Canada’s Axia NetMedia; and the Accacia Group. The possible tie-up is understood to have been prompted by reports that incumbent Telstra, which was excluded from the NBN tender process on a technicality, has identified areas in which it could extend or upgrade its own broadband infrastructure in a bid to compete with any new next generation network. It is understood, however, that any formal agreement between the three companies will not be possible until after March 2009, as a result of constraints within the request for proposal (RFP) guidelines.
