EU wants improved competition among Portuguese telcos

2 Feb 2009

The European Commission has called on the European Court of Justice to force the Portuguese government to open up the country’s telecoms markets to increased competition, a report from Dow Jones says. Portugal has not complied with EU legislation covering telecoms competition which ensures that alternative providers are able to compete fairly with incumbent operators. ‘The promises made by Portugal have not materialised,’ Viviane Reding, the EU’s telecoms commissioner, said in a statement.
