Antel’s IPTV launch imminent

Uruguayan state-owned telco Antel is preparing to launch internet protocol television (IPTV) services within the next two months, local newspaper Ultimas Noticias has reported. Antel’s vice president, Gonzalo Perera, said the company has been working on the launch for four months, and already has the necessary equipment to deliver the service, which would be the country’s first IPTV offering. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Antel subsidiary AntelData had a broadband subscriber base of 190,000 at the end of June 2008, representing a market share of 91.35%.
