German cableco Kabel BW has claimed its broadband internet subscriber base rose 59% last year to 382,000, and announced that this figure is expected to grow during 2009. Klaus Thiemann, CEO of Kabel BW, said ‘We have shown an excellent performance in 2008. Due to our high levels of investment, we now pass 3.5 million households with our fast internet offer. Not only in the big cities, but also in the countryside, our customers receive the full bandwidth of 32Mbps.’ Kabel BW says turnover rose 18% to EUR438 million (USD569 million) and EBITDA improved by 30% to EUR190 million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Kabel BW was the German broadband market’s smallest company in terms of market share with just 2.24% in September 2008, compared to market leader Deutsche Telekom with 69.87%.
