Azerfon deploys almost 100 new base stations

Azerfon, which offers mobile services under the Nar Mobile banner, has announced the installation and launch of 93 new base stations around the country since the beginning of 2009. Azerfon claims that the deployment has increased the quality of Azerfon’s network coverage in 22 regions and now covers 90% of the country. The cellco was granted a GSM-900/1800 licence in December 2005 and launched GSM/GPRS/EDGE services in late March 2007 in nine regions. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Azerfon had a wireless subscriber base of one million at the end of September 2008, representing a market share of 16.85%.
