22 Jan 2009

Bharti Airtel, India’s largest wireless operator by subscribers, has released its results for the three months ended 31 December 2008, revealing a 38% increase in revenues year-on-year to INR96.33 billion (USD1.95 billion). Bharti also saw a rise in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), up 33% y-o-y to INR39.5 billion. Net profit for the operator also increased, rising 25% over the twelve-month period to INR21.6 billion.

The impressive results have been attributed to increases in subscribers. The cellco reported its highest ever net-additions in a quarter, signing up 8.3 million mobile customers over the three-month period, bringing its total mobile subscriber base to 85.65 million, an increase of 54% over the year ending 31 December 2008.
