Delta Telecom plans to introduce 300Mbps wireless internet

21 Jan 2009

Azerbaijan’s Delta Telecom has announced plans to introduce wireless internet based on WiMAX technology with connection speeds of up to 300Mbps, according to Azerbaijan Business Center. The company claims to own the largest internet backbone network in the region, providing IP services to all of Azerbaijan’s ISPs. The company is reportedly set to introduce the country’s first mobile WiMAX network by end-January. Alcatel-Lucent has been contracted to supply the equipment for the new network, in a deal signed in September 2008. Delta Telecom will be able to offer customers high speed internet access and voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) services.
