Mobile use doubles in 2008; internet grows 22.5%

The total number of mobile lines in operation in Uzbekistan more than doubled to 12.5 million in 2008, according to local business portal Uzreport.com, citing data published at a review of the telecoms and IT sector by the Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers, on 15 January. By 31 December cellular penetration stood at roughly 46% of Uzbekistan’s 27.3 million inhabitants. In addition, internet use increased by 22.5% last year, the government announced.
