Latvian fixed line and broadband operator Lattelecom has announced plans to roll out a new fibre-optic broadband network under its ‘Network of the Future’ project. The first phase of deployment will see the new infrastructure made available to more than 30 apartment buildings in the Zolitude area in the city of Riga. The fibre-optic network is expected to initially deliver speeds up to 100Mbps, with the operator claiming this would increase to 500Mbps by the end of the year. The high speed network will be expanded to other areas of the city, including Ķengarags, Imanta and Plavnieki, after the initial trials are completed. Lattelecom is also planning to launch additional services to take advantage of the increased speeds, including HDTV services.
