Fixed line incumbent Telecom Argentina, under its broadband label Arnet, has begun selling PCs and laptops with its broadband services included, in a bid to increase its broadband subscriptions. Telecom Argentina is slowly shifting its focus away from the fixed line market, which has shown signs of slowing over the past few years, to concentrate on broadband, the telco’s fastest growing market. The packages include a laptop with broadband access for ARS1,899 (USD551) and a PC with broadband access for ARS2,999 (USD870). Customers have the choice of paying in installments. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Telecom Argentina’s broadband subscriber base increased from 375,000 to 976,000 between September 2007 and September 2008 and in the same month had a market share of 33.8%, just two percentage points lower than market leader Telefonica de Argentina.
