Batelco completes NGN

16 Jan 2009

Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) has completed the migration of its legacy fixed line infrastructure to a next generation network (NGN), which will allow it offer triple-play broadband internet access, IP telephony and IPTV over a single line to residents and businesses nationwide. The state-run telco partnered China’s Huawei Technologies to implement the USD57 million project, which it began in 2005, and finished a year ahead of its original schedule. Immediate benefits for customers include receiving a broadband connection on the same day they request the service, compared to a process that took up to a week prior to the migration.
