Comstar brings WiMAX to Moscow

After investing approximately USD20 million in the project in 2008, Comstar UTS has announced that it has soft launched a 802.16e WiMAX network in Moscow this week. The ongoing use of the WiMAX network will be free of charge during the test phase. Subscribers participating in the trial will pay RUB4,600 (USD145.58) for a USB compatible WiMAX adapter, and pre-pay a monthly fee of RUB200 for the first month of use following the full commercial launch of the network which is expected in the second quarter of 2009. Participating subscribers will also be eligible for a discounted ongoing tariff plan of RUB200 from the date of the commercial launch for 2GB of traffic per month. This offering will only be available until the end of the trial period.
