China Unicom to achieve 3G coverage of 280 cities by December

China Unicom has confirmed that it expects to launch 3G services based on W-CDMA in 55 cities in the first half of this year rising to 280 cities by the end of 2009, company executives told a news conference. The company added that tariffs for both fixed line and mobile services will see downward pressure due to 3G competition.
