Telecoms business booming in Vietnam

Vietnam’s Information and Communications Minister Le Doan Hop has announced that in 2008 the country’s telecoms sector achieved revenue of USD5.4 billion, representing a 38% year-on-year increase. Vietnam registered 82.25 million telephone subscribers at the end of December, 85.5% of which were wireless customers. Internet subscribers rose to 20.67 million, an increase of 28%. Le Doan Hop further announced that during 2009 his ministry will focus on bringing internet services to schools and rural areas, launching a foreign news channel and a Q&A service on the ministry website.
