The Rwandan senate has approved a USD60 million project to improve the country’s regional communication infrastructure. The government plans to extend fibre-optic submarine cables from Kenya and Mombasa to all hospitals, schools and government institutions in the country. Energy Minister Albert Butare told the senate that this new project should make teleco services cheaper and more efficient, by bypassing the need to use expensive satellite bandwidth.
