TRA finalises process for acquisition of mobile TV licence

12 Jan 2009

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has closed the process for the acquisition of a licence to broadcast mobile television services. The process began in June 2008 and nine different organisations have since submitted an application. Director General of the TRA H. E. Mohamed Al Ghanim said, ‘The applicants were not limited to companies having telecom licences. Any entity fulfilling the criteria set out in the document was welcomed to put in a proposal.’ He added that the TRA will first check that the proposals are in line with requirements stipulated by the initial invitation, before coming to a decision by the end of March.
