Orange and Canal+ ink deal to broadcast content via Astra satellite

7 Jan 2009

France Telecom (Orange) and Canal+ yesterday announced the signing of a long-term agreement to allow Orange triple-play customers who are not capable of receiving TV by ADSL to subscribe to Canal+, Canalsat and Foot+ satellite services. In a press release, Orange said that from 2009 its triple-play customers with a satellite TV service will be able to receive the services directly on a single ADSL/satellite hybrid set-top box provided by Orange, using the Astra satellite. Orange says it has also signed an agreement with SES Astra allowing it to broadcast its own channels. As well as the bouquet of Orange TV channels and catch-up services, all Orange triple-play subscribers to Canal+ and Canalsat will now be able to access Canal+ catch-up on demand and Canalsat on demand.
