Gaza facing communications cut-off as a result of attacks

6 Jan 2009

Palestinian incumbent Paltel has warned that Gaza faces disconnection from the outside world as a result of the recent Israeli air strikes and ground assault in the region. Paltel has claimed that, whilst it has several options for connecting to international telecoms services, only one option is still functioning. It reports that 90% of its mobile network is currently offline, with a substantial number of fixed lines also reportedly out of order, due to the loss of electricity and damage from the attacks. The telco also reports that three lives have been lost as technicians have attempted to repair the damages, and a further seven workers have been injured.
