Cabase calls for more interconnection; subs up 20% y-on-y

Edmundo Valenti, project coordinator of Argentina’s ISP association Cabase, has told BNamericas that the lack of interconnection agreements between provincial incumbent operators and ISPs is having a detrimental effect on the development of internet services. He called on the government to be more active in guaranteeing interconnection in order to bring down costs in the provinces where users pay more for internet access than customers in large urban areas.

In a separate but related story, government statistics bureau Indec has reported that the number of broadband connections in Argentina stood at 3.4 million at the end of September, up 20% year-on-year.
