17 Dec 2008

Baltic telecoms group BITE Group has announced that it has signed a deal with iBasis, a KPN affiliate, which will see the latter carry BITE’s international mobile voice traffic from Latvia and Lithuania. BITE claims that the deal will allow it to route its international mobile voice traffic more cost-efficiently by leveraging the iBasis VoIP-based network. BITE utilises iBasis’ ‘Premium Voice’ service, which includes features such as guaranteed calling line identification (CLI) and global roaming. iBasis has relationships with more than 100 mobile operators, and carries international traffic from KPN’s Dutch, German and Belgian operations. iBasis also offers value-added services for mobile operators with its Mobile Matrix portfolio. Commenting on the deal, Martin Amtoft-Christensen, BITE Group’s CFO, said, ‘With iBasis we can more cost effectively bring global, high-quality and competitive services to our Latvian and Lithuanian customers, while facilitating our ability to offer emerging converged IP-based products.’
