Anatel may place limitation on Oi’s BrT deal, paper says

17 Dec 2008

The Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel may place a restriction on Oi (Telemar’s) planned acquisition of Brasil Telecom Participacoes (BrT) by giving the state-development bank and pension funds the right to block the deal, Bloomberg reports citing an article in the Folha de S Paulo newspaper. Anatel board member Emilia Ribeiro is quoted as saying she wants to prevent the new enlarged telco from being purchased by a foreign company following a cash injection of USD2.88 billion from government coffers, according to the newspaper. Anatel is expected to rule on the takeover today.
