Two mobile TV licences up for grabs

10 Dec 2008

The South African telecoms regulator Icasa has opened a tender for two DVB-H mobile TV licences. The licences will initially offer frequencies covering major urban centres such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town, but additional regions will be opened up as the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting proceeds. Companies are required to hold an electronic communications or TV broadcasting licence in order to be eligible to bid in the tender, which closes at the end of February 2009.
