Airspan wins WiMAX expansion contract with Multimedia

10 Dec 2008

Airspan Networks and Multimedia Polska, a provider of triple-play services and solutions across Poland, have announced an expansion contract for the delivery of Airspan’s WiMAX solutions in the 3.5GHz and 5.9GHz frequency bands. This order, for delivery by the end of the year, includes both fixed and mobile-ready base station equipment, as well as customer premises equipment enabling value added services such as voice-over-IP (VoIP).

Multimedia Polska originally selected Airspan in 2007 for a project to substitute an old radio access system working in the 2.4GHz band with a newer, more dependable and higher-capacity WiMAX network. This new expansion order will allow Multimedia to continue replacing CT2 and DECT systems with WiMAX. ‘We are delighted at Multimedia’s vote of confidence in Airspan’s WiMAX solutions as evidenced by these additional orders. Multimedia Polska has an aggressive vision centered on differentiation and customer satisfaction – this is a vision we share,’ said Anders Rendahl, Airspan’s senior vice president and general manager EMEA.

Multimedia is one Poland’s largest providers of triple-play services, with a total of 647,000 customers at the end of September 2008.
