NTA opens application process for rural telecoms provision

9 Dec 2008

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has extended an invitation for applications to provide telecoms services in the unserved village development committees (VDCs) of the country’s eastern development region (EDR), utilising Nepal’s rural telecommunication development fund (FTDF). The watchdog published its invitation on 7 December and will accept requests for application documents from 14 December onwards, with the last date of submission of application being 12 January 2009. It is understood the NTA intends to issue an Authorisation to an existing licensee which currently holds a valid voice telephone service (Basic, Mobile or RTS service) licence and which operates a network for this purpose. NTA says it will provide one-time subsidy to provide telephone services in the underdeveloped VDCs of EDR, which will be provided from the RTDF managed by NTA.
