Rwandatel will launch its GSM and W-CDMA network this Friday, reports AllAfrica.com. The telco had hoped to launch earlier this year but claims that post-election violence in Kenya interfered with a shipment of equipment needed to deploy the network. The company will compete head to head with MTN Rwanda. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, MTN launched 2G services in June 1998, added GPRS in April 2006 and is currently trialling a 3G network in Kigali. The cellco broke the one million subscriber barrier in October 2008.
