Romanian telecoms group RomTelecom, a 54.01%-owned subsidiary of Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation (OTE) of Greece, reported operational losses of EUR14.4 million (USD18.3 million) in the first nine months of this year, reversing an operational profit of EUR33.1 million in the corresponding period of 2007, OTE revealed in a financial statement. The Romanian telco’s 9M08 revenues climbed 1.1% to EUR656.4 million from EUR649 million a year earlier, it said. RomTelecom posted quarterly operational profit of EUR1.7 million in the third quarter of this year, down 77%, on the EUR7.4 million figure recorded in Q3 2007, while quarterly revenues rose 2.1% to EUR214 million, compared with EUR209.6 million in Q3 2007.
RomTelecom said the number of main lines in service stood at 2.975 million at 30 September 2008, down 1.6% from 3.024 million at end-September 2007. The number of ADSL connections reached 567,000 by 1 October this year, up 325,000 lines, or 135%, year-on-year. Meanwhile, RomTelecom’s digital TV service ‘Dolce’ reported 559,000 users at end-September 2008, up 268,000 on September 2007.
