Arcep announces decision to cut MTRs

The French telecoms regulator Arcep yesterday adopted and published its decision imposing a decrease of wholesale mobile termination rates (MTRs) for the period running from 1 July 2009 to 31 December 2010. From 1 July 2009 Orange France and SFR will be required to cut their MTR tariffs from EUR0.065 per minute to EUR0.045; a further decrease will take effect from 1 July 2010, cutting the maximum call termination rate to EUR0.030 per minute. Meanwhile Bouygues Telecom, which currently charges EUR0.085 per minute, will be expected to cut its rate to EUR0.060 per minute from 1 July 2009, falling to EUR0.040 for the period 1 July 2010 to 31 December 2010. The decision follows a public consultation, advice from the French competition council and the approval of the European Commission.
