MTS launches two more 3G networks

Russian mobile operator Mobile Telesystems (MTS) has announced the launch of its ninth and tenth 3G networks in Chelyabinsk and Irkutsk. MTS launched its first pan-regional Russian 3G network in St. Petersburg in May 2008 followed by Sochi, Yekaterinburg and Kazan. In August the 3G network was expanded to Nizhniy Novgorod, and in September to Novosibirsk and Norilsk, in Siberia, and Vladivostok, the largest city in the Russian Far East.

MTS intends to launch 3G networks in at least 14 cities during 2008 and in up to 40 Russian cities during 2009. MTS also holds 3G licenses in Uzbekistan and Armenia, with networks scheduled for launch in 2009.
