Tigo expands electronic payment system

Paraguay’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, Millicom-owned Tigo, says it has attracted 150,000 users for its electronic payment system Tigo Cash. A report from BNamericas which cites local newspaper La Nacion says Tigo Cash is now being expanded to work at major supermarket chains and remittance firms. Millicom is trialling the payment system in Paraguay before launching it at its other subsidiaries around the world. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Tigo had 2.6 million subscribers and a 44% share of Paraguay’s cellular market at the end of September.
