According to Dow Jones, Mumbai-based Loop Telecom aims to finalise the vendors for its 2G rollout by 15 December this year; the operator expects the contract to be worth between INR10 billion (USD200 million) and INR40 billion (USD800 million). Additionally, the cellco is reported to have plans to begin services in eight circles in 2009, having received start-up spectrum for six circles so far; commercial launches are expected between May and June that year. The cellco, a subsidiary of BPL Mobile, currently offers GSM-based services in Mumbai, but was awarded a pan-India unified access service licence (UASL) early in 2008.
