Regulator wants network plan reviewed

25 Nov 2008

The Italian telecoms regulator Agcom is to ask Telecom Italia (TI) to review its plan for opening up its fixed line networks and is keen to see the telco add additional pledges. TI has already set up a new unit called Open Access which to manage its networks business and is also proposing the creation of an independent board to ensure that rival firms gain equal access to its infrastructure. Competitors say the plans do not go far enough, however, and Agcom chairman Corrado Calabro has told Dow Jones Newswires that the watchdog will issue a counter-proposal later this week calling on the telco to do more.
