The Taiwanese 3G mobile operator Vibo Telecom says it expects the country to be home to up to a million HSDPA subscribers by the end of next year. The firm’s president Feng-hsiung Chang told DigiTimes that there will be around 300,000 3.5G subscribers in the country by the end of this year, with the total rising to between 600,000 and one million by end-2009. Cellular operators are upgrading their existing HSDPA systems to offer peak download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps and customer demand is being fuelled by the wider availability of mobile internet devices, notebook PCs and internet-capable phones.
