Job cuts planned as Freenet integrates Debitel

21 Nov 2008

According to Telecompaper, Freenet and mobile subsidiary Debitel will cut 1,000 jobs as part of the integration of the latter into the former. Freenet acquired the MVNO earlier in the year in a deal worth EUR1.6 billion (USD2.6 billion). Freenet has sought to sell off its DSL unit in order to focus on mobile internet and content services, but has so far failed to find a buyer, with recent reports suggesting that disposal attempts have been put on hold for the time being.
