ANC pushes back deadline for WiMAX tender

21 Nov 2008

The National Authority for Communications (ANC) has said that tenders for two additional licences to use the 3.6GHz-3.8GHz frequencies, which will allow the introduction of WiMAX technology, may be submitted until 5 February 2009. Previously, the proposed deadline for tender submission was 5 January 2009. A third WiMAX licence has been reserved for the National Society for Radiocommunications (SNR).

According to the tender details published on 15 October 2008, submitted tenders will be evaluated according to their financial capacity, judged by reference to their performance in 2005-2007, and their commercial feasibility, plus the specialisation and experience of the bidders and their technical feasibility and coverage. The fee for licences has been set at EUR7.5 million.

The provided services will have to cover at least 50 municipalities and at least 20 cities. The deadlines for the three phases proposed for the development of networks are 1 September 2010, 1 March 2012 and 1 September 2013.
