Econet prepares for end-November launch

Kenya is due to get its fourth cellular network later this month when Econet Wireless launches services under the brand name yu. The company, which will target the 18-35-year-old bracket, will launch in Nairobi on 27 November, with plans to extend its coverage to Mombasa by the end of the year and other parts of the country by 1Q 2009, according to a report from local newspaper The Nation.

In preparation for its launch, Econet has signed a contract with Indian firm Subex for the provision of a revenue operations centre which will offer both revenue assurance and fraud management solutions. Meanwhile, the cellco has also announced a contract to implement Cerillion Technologies’ interconnection management tool, Cerillion Express.
