Mobile operators in Paraguay billed USD455 million in the first nine months of this year, a 15% increase over the same period in 2007. A report from BNamericas, which cites local newspaper La Nacion, says that the rise in sales was due to continued investments in network expansions and upgrades which are in turn leading to strong subscriber growth. Paraguay is home to four cellular operators, with 5.48 million customers between them at the end of June according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. The Millicom subsidiary Telecel leads the market, with around 45% of all subscriptions, while Telecom Argentina subsidiary Nucleo claims 32%, Japanese-owned Hola has 12% and America Movil’s Claro unit claims 11%.
