Altech to play a part in MTN competition hearing

13 Nov 2008

Altech’s legal team has been granted the opportunity to question MTN on its planned ZAR1.4 billion (USD135.6 million) acquisition of Verizon Business SA, at the Competition Tribunal hearing. Altech’s representatives will be able to call and cross-examine witnesses, and produce and inspect documents, in its quest to prevent the transaction on the grounds it will make MTN unfairly dominant in the data as well as mobile market with the ability to offer bundled packages. Altech will also be able to see the report of the Competition Commission, which has recommended approval of the deal. The right to participate gives Altech a greater chance of influencing the final outcome than it would have by only presenting its own objections.

South Africa, Altech (Allied Technologies), MTN Business (Namibia), MTN Group
