Telekom Austria Group has seen net profit fall 6.2% in the third quarter to EUR162.9 million, from EUR173.7 million in the year-ago period, though profits were higher than the EUR148 million average estimate from analysts polled by Dow Jones Newswires. Revenues were up 4% year-on-year at EUR1.33 billion, in line with estimates, while EBITDA rose 3% to EUR1.51 billion. Sales were driven primarily by the consolidation of Belarusian cellular operator Velcom. The group expects sales to grow 5% in full-year 2008. At the end of September the Telekom Austria Group claimed just over 17 million cellular customers, up 51.5% year-on-year, thanks to the addition of Velcom and organic growth across all subsidiaries. The domestic wireline unit saw its customer base drop 5.8% to 2.34 million lines, though broadband internet subscriptions were up 15.7% year-on-year at 835,900, including 68,900 wholesale DSL connections.
