Hutchison Telecommunications International Limited (HTIL) has reported its unaudited key performance indicators for its mobile operations for the quarter ended 30 September 2008. The Hong Kong-based group’s consolidated mobile user base grew to 11.195 million at the end of the quarter, up from 11.062 million three months previously and 9.1 million a year earlier. Overall subscriber growth was slowed by a restatement of the user total in Sri Lanka, where the reported number of subscribers fell by 333,000 from the end of June to 958,000 at end-September. Indonesian operations added 400,000 net new customers in the quarter, resulting in a customer base of over 3.6 million, representing year-on-year growth of 122% and quarterly growth of 12.5%. In more established markets HTIL’s mobile businesses reported sustained healthy growth in the 3G segment. In Hong Kong, operating under the 3 brand, it consolidated its 3G market leader position with a 6.9% growth in its W-CDMA/HSPA customer base during the quarter; it claimed that its 1.3 million domestic 3G customers (of a total of 2.7 million 2G/3G users) at the end of September gave it an approximately 50% share of the domestic 3G market. Israeli operations, trading as Partner Communications, also saw strong growth in the 3G segment, with subscribers increasing by 8% during the third quarter to 901,000, taking its total customer base to 2.9 million.
