50,000 porting requests on first day of MNP

12 Nov 2008

The Turkish mobile market saw almost 50,000 requests from users looking to change service provider on the first day after the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP). A report from local newspaper Hurriyet says a thousand applications were completed within the first few minutes of implementation. All three of the country’s cellular operators have launched promotions aimed at retaining existing subscribers and winning clients from rival networks. Local analysts predict that up to seven million porting requests will be made now that users can switch networks while keeping their original phone number.
