Econet forced to suspend post-paid services

10 Nov 2008

Zimbabwe’s largest wireless operator by subscribers Econet Wireless has announced that, due to the shortcomings of its existing post-paid billing platform, it is migrating subscribers on its Business Partna contract package to a pre-paid platform, reports sundaymail.co.zw. Econet spokesman Ranga Mberi said Business Partna customers will be moved to the pre-paid system with effect from today (10 November). According to Mr Mberi, ‘This measure will be temporary, as the company is working to install a brand new, state of the art billing and customer relationship management [CRM] system. Our current billing platform has been in place since 1998, and has come to the end of its practical life, and therefore requires extensive and urgent software upgrade. This exercise has foreign currency implications, and its full implementation could be delayed due to the prevailing economic environment. Customers currently on Business Partna will be moved to a new premium package under which they would make payments to Econet service centres, without having to purchase recharge cards.’
