The Samart/AIT consortium has won an electronic auction for CAT Telecom’s extended Internet Protocol (IP) network with a bidding price of THB898 million (USD26 million), reports the Bangkok Post. The price was THB70 million below the median price set by the state telecom enterprise. CAT senior executive vice-president Somphol Chandaprasert said Samart/AIT was chosen over NEC Corp, which bid THB930 million. After signing the contract, the winner will be given 240 days to install the IP network, which is expected to generate a 5% increase next year in data communication revenues. Somphol added that during the past nine months CAT generated THB6.1 billion from its data business, 8.4% off its target of THB6.4 billion.
